   The Republic of Kazakhstan 
is situated in the Central part of Eurasia.   The square 
is 2,717,300 thousand square kilometers.  The population 
is 14,9 million people. 56% of the the population is urban.   
Ethnicities: Kazakhs (more than 7 million people), Russians, Germans, Ukranians, 
Jews, Tatars, Uzbeks, Belorussians, Uigurs, etc.  The 
state language is Kazakh; Russian is the primary language of communication.  
Religions: Muslim, Orthodox, and Jewish.  Synagogues 
are in the capital of the country, oblast centers and big cities.  The 
Head of the country is President Nursultan Nazarbayev.  The 
legislative body is the parliament, consisting of two houses - Mazhilis 
and Senate.  Regions: There are 14 oblasts, 207 
regions, 84 cities and 210 urban villages in Kazakhstan.  The 
local currency is tenge.  The country code 
is +7.  Some characteristics There are 85,022 rivers 
and temporary currents.  The longest river is the 
Irtysh River with a length of 4,248 kilometers. 1,700 kilometers are on the territory 
of the Republic of Kazakhstan.  The biggest lake 
is the Caspian Sea.  The biggest region is Karagandinskaya 
Oblast with an area of 426 thousand square kilometers.  The 
largest city in Kazakhstan is Almaty; 1,129,300 thousand people live there 
(according to the survey for 01.01.2000).   The 
capital of the country is Astana. 
The Presidential Administration, Ministries and Bureaus and other Government offices 
are there. Almaty is the South Capital of 
Kazakhstan and the center of cultural and business life of the country. The
