Prikaspiyskaya
and Turanskaya plains are in the West of Kazakhstan, the mountains are in the
central part of the country, the south edge of the West-Siberian plain is on
the North and Altay, Tarbagatay, Dzhungarskiy Alatau and Tyan-Shan mountains
are in the East and South-East of Kazakhstan.
The climate is sharp continental. The average temperature for January is between
-18C in the North and -3C in the South, for July is between +19C in the North
and +28-30C in the South. In the North the atmospheric precipitation is about
300mm/year, in deserts the level of precipitation is less than 100 mm/year,
in the mountains it is about 1600mm/year.
The main rivers are Irtysh, Ural, Chu and Syrdarya; there is Balkhash Lake,
parts of Aral and Caspian Sea. The soils are chestnut, black, gray and brown.
There is steppe and desert flora there.
Preserves and reserves are the following: Almatinskiy, Aksu-Dzhabagly, Barsakelmes
and Bayan-Aulskiy National Park.
