On
September 8 the Jewish community of Karaganda city celebrated Rosh-ha-Shannah.
The celebration was held in "Bibigul" cafe. The holiday program
was prepared by the staff of "Miriam" community center and Jewish
Sunday school attached to the city community. There were about 200 people
invited. Unfortunately, it was impossible to invite all those who wished
to take part in the celebration.
But those who were in the holiday were really lucky. They
had a good chance to see the New Year in by performing the traditional
ceremony, and to enjoy a wonderful concert. The festival was opened by
"Shalom" trio (Rodion and Inessa Shatilovs, Fyodor Malin)
that sang "Sha-hova" and "Golden Jerusalem". The director
of the Community center Irina Kozhanovskaya congratulated the community
on behalf of Hesed "Miriam" and "Mitsva" Association.
The coordinator of religious program Alexander Abramovich told about
the importance of Rosh-ha-Shannah and concluded his presentation by blowing
shofar. "Lishmoah kol shofar" - "Listen to shofar"
is the main commandment of Rosh-ha-Shannah, and the community carried
it out standing upright.
The celebration went on. The chorus of children and parents
from the Sunday school sang "BaShannah habaha", Tatyana Irinyeva
played potpourri of Jewish songs on violin, then there were a passionate
"Jamaica" song and Eugenie Dogey's lyrical waltz from "My
Soft and Tender Pet" film. The concert was concluded with the debut
of "Miriam" JCC women's club. Women sang favorite songs: "Ebeynu
shalom aleihem", "Shofar", and Stas Namin's "We wish
you happiness". The audience joined them in singing. Then the guests
took part in a quiz on films of directors-Jews and about Jews, and in
the "Upside-Down" game devoted to popular TV programs. For example,
what is it - "there is nobody outside"? It is "While
Everybody Is Home" program. Dancing to Jewish and modern melodies
concluded the celebration.
