Jewish organizations in Atyrau City

  The administrative center is Atyrau City.

  The oblast was known before 1992 as Guryevskaya Oblast. The total territory of the oblast is 113.5 thousand square kilometers; the population is 445 thousand people. The administrative center is Railway Station Atyrau. Atyrau was founded by brothers Guryevs as a port on Ural River. The population of the city is 152.5 thousand people.

  The priority in development got the oil-refining and chemical industries; there are also engineering industry and meatpacking plant there. There is a Pedagogical University; also the city has got drama theatre and the museum of local lore.

  Since 1999 American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (AJJDC, "Joint") cooperates with Atyrau Jewish national organizations.
