8-9 September this year Karaganda Community Center presented its
first OFEK. The heads of the Center Irina Kozhanovskaya and Irina Revenko thoroughly
studied different materials and recommendations on conducting such a festival.
The festival lasted for two days taking into consideration the number of people
and various themes of the festival. 8 September - the first day started from
the official opening of OFEK. The heads of the Community Center and Hesed congratulated
Jewish Community with this field day. The Children Program started at 11 AM
at Children Puppet Theatre "Buratino". The festival started from children
book exhibition. The exhibition was beautifully decorated: There was an old
read book on stand at the head, and the young reader of our library Nastya Revenko
read a poem about it. There was a poster with a clown on it saying: "This
is your World!" The children library staff were telling children about
Jewish writers, about their lives, about the situations some books were written
in and certainly, about characters of wonderful novels, stories and poems. Then
a fairy tale "About a wise Rabbi" was read and a quiz about it, Jewish
holidays and knowledge of some Jewish literature and characters was conducted.
The library employees managed to tell about the heroes of Jewish fairy tales
and stories in popular and interesting way. After that all children got little
pieces of paper, they wrote their cherished wishes and attached them to a painted
tree.
The next was the puppet theatre staff. They showed the theatre and puppets.
Children program was finished with mini show "The Tsar Solomon's parables".
Children saw Tsar Solomon walking in his beautiful garden and playing the violin,
beauty tsarina Savskaya who was loved by Solomon and about the Bee.
Children took part in the show themselves. Tsarina Savskaya played
many games with them choosing the wisest and the strongest. Mickey Mouse, Leopold
Cat and Malvina also participated in the festival; they sang songs, danced and
played with the children. When the program finished all participants got presents
in commemoration of the first OFEK and children were offered refreshments: lemonade
and pastries. Children were leaving the festival very unwillingly and their
grandparents kindly thanked the organizers for their work.
The festival " moved" to the art gallery at 6 PM where
was a literary soiree. Irina Revenko told about Jewish poets who made an invaluable
contribution in the world poetry. She told about different poets and their different,
sometimes tragic lives. The students of Karaganda Art College read the poems
of these poets and sang a beautiful romance by Boris Pasternak. The soiree finished
with the bard songs of Alexey Stavitskiy and Boris Sultanov. In the intermissions
between songs they told about Alexander Rozenbaum and Alexander Galich, about
serious and funny moments concerned with their songs. The auditory was looking
forward to familiar and loved songs and joined in singing them.
September 9 started from moving books from the Hesed library to
the concert hall "Shalkyma". The tables for books were being prepared
in the hall. Later was found out that the library stock was so big that the
tables were not enough to place all the books. So some of them should have been
removed. The exhibition was very various with a lot of sections: religious literature,
Torah, Midrash, history, holidays, tradition, Shabbat, Jewish Philosophy and
Psychology, Marriage and Family, Israeli writers and classics of Yiddish literature.
The second floor of the concert hall was occupied with the art
exhibition of the young painter Alexander Korshunov. Despite he is only 15 years
old he has some really good paintings that were estimated by experienced art
experts at their true worth. One of the best is "Holocaust". People
were standing and looking at it for a long time feeling the same. Alexander's
mother Tatyana Korshunova (she is also a painter) told about her son's painting.
Alexander had to answer a lot of questions, to communicate with the audience
and he got a lot of warm words addressed to him.
After that there was a concert. The Oblast library staff and the
teacher of Karaganda State University Lyudmila Lyubanskaya told about books
and lives of their authors. Also there were musical items: duet of the piano
and violin, "Waltz Boston" performed by Alexander Stavitskiy, Jewish
Suite performed by Boris Propichshagin and Kichikyan.
The first OFEK finished with the storm of applause and "raining"
balloons.
