In
my view the seminar for employees of Jewish Libraries that took place in Almaty
on February 17-19, 2003 was very successful and fruitful. It was also due to
the fact that the seminar was organized right in "Rimon" JCC and Republican
Jewish Library.
All lectures and training conducted in a warm and friendly atmosphere
broadened the outlook of library employees and provided knowledge necessary
for renewing the Jewish way of life in the region.
I would like to thank all
the organizers and lecturers of the seminar.
Igor Zhigarlovsky
Seminar for employees of Kazakhstani Jewish Libraries was held in
"Rimon" JCC on February 17-20. There were 12 participants from Shymkent,
Ust-Kamenogorsk, Petropavlovsk, Pavlodar, Taraz, Uralsk, Semipalatinsk, Karaganda,
Astana, Aktobe, Kostanay, and Kokshetau. For most of them that meeting was the
first step of training.
The seminar program included such subjects as organization and monitoring
of library stock flow, correct way of keeping documentation, and peculiarities
of library service. Interesting "Meeting" training conducted by a psychologist
Irina Zaltsman helped to acquaint the participants and create a friendly atmosphere
on the seminar.
Irina Kopylenko provided the librarians with basic knowledge on the
written monuments of Judaism. The head of the Republican Jewish library Eugenia
Karyakina told about the library programs and different ways of serving clients
in a reading hall. Practical training showed the preparedness and creativeness
of Larissa Brodskaya from Karaganda and Igor Zhigarlovsky from Petropavlovsk.
Galina Korobkina acquainted the participants with library computer program "Irbis".
Future prospects were shown on the example of "NESH" virtual
seminars. The participants were really glad to welcome Moscow lecturer Konstantin
Burmistrov, who presented "Parallels" magazine, the House of the Jewish
Book, and interesting discussion on the subject "Kabbala - Myths and Reality".
The participants took home new books and methodical aids necessary
for future work.
