Jewish Community Center organized Family Club in summer 2000. It
was "born" in a very unusual way: it hadn't been born yet but already
had been enrolled in Summer Family Camp. There in the camp, situated in a very
beautiful recreation zone near Almaty, Lekhaim was founded. 30 families (about
110 people) gathered under one roof and gave this name to Family Club.
The
head of the Club, Ida Utigaliyeva, is musician by profession, and she combines
her work for Jewish Community Center with the work in conservatory. She believes
that Jewish music and songs help people feel without any words that they are
Jews. The Family Club program includes studying song in Hebrew and Yiddish.
And, of course, it is only a small part of "Lekhaim" project.
Family Club cooperates with others: Women's Club
"Ruth", Youth Club and with the
Center of Children Art.
On 29 October 2000 First Exhibition of Children
Art was opened. The Family Club together with the Center of Children Art prepared
it. There were more than 50 paintings.
Together with other clubs of JCC Family Club celebrated Sukkot.
During winter holidays between 2-7 January 2001 children and their
parents gathered again in the Family
camp. All 5 five days in the camp were busy, full of sport and art programs.
Interesting thing that the number of families participating increased from 30
to 47 (total 122 people) in comparison with summer camp. Children were divided
into 4 groups according their age, now the number of group increased to 8. 5
camp counselors and 9 volunteers helped JCC and Hesed Polina in organizing winter
camp.
There is new tradition in our Club - Winter Family Camp. See
