Today and Tomorrow.

During the Annual Conference, which lasted for three days, twenty directors of Hasadim, Jewish Community and Cultural Centres, the President of Association of Jewish National Organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Mitsva" Alexander Baron, spokesperson of The American "Joint" Distribution Committee for the Central Asia and Transcaucasian Region Max Wiesel defined objectives for future development of Jewish Community of Kazakhstan at the Annual Conference.

The participants were welcomed to the event by the Ambassador of Israel in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Ran Ishay, the Regional Head of the World "Sokhnut" Agency for Israel Josef Lebovich, rabbi Bitsalel Livshits, chairman of Assembly of Nations of Kazakhstan Fund Victor Grebnev and Executive Director of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Feodor Ossinin.

During the brainstorming session a number of key strategic projects were defined. Major concerns of the discussions were the building of a community with strong Jewish traditions, Jewish education and cultural revival programmes, youth initiative, the financial independence of the organisation and the policies of "Joint" for overcoming financial crisis.

The statement "The future of the community depends on contribution of each individual" is universally accepted, yet not always followed. In order to implement this approach, the structure of Kazakhstan抯 Jewish community must be developed with well defined rights and responsibilities of each community member. Introduction of membership fees would encourage patrons to enjoy benefits of the membership while making certain contributions.

Joint抯 spokesman Max Wiesel facilitated this discussion. Significant contributions were also made by The President of Association of Jewish National Organizations "Mitsva" Alexander Baron, the Director of JCC and Freileche Kinder festival Irina Kozhanovskaya (Karaganda), "Hesed" Directors Elena Levina (Astana), Anatoliy Itkin (Kokshetau), programme managers Valentina Sokolkova (Home care service) and Marina Yorish (Rehabilitation equipment hire), and others.

The Annual Conference was finalised and concluded at the round table, but the outcomes of this conference will materialise later in the everyday work of the communities and will positively influence the life of Jewish Diaspora of Kazakhstan.
