In the third publication you would know out that, planned, started recently, research the past of Jews on territory of Kazakhstan continues successfully. Confirmation of that fact is international conference devoted to this issue.
This year was the 90 th anniversary of “Joint”. Celebrating this field day the conference has begun of the report about the activity of this famous organization, read by Professor A. Weiss ( Israel).
Among 19 reports it is necessary to remark that reports which, were devoted to little known or unexplored pages of the past, problem themes. The report of researcher from Petropavlovsk ( North Kazakhstan), Mark Vitkin, containing reasonal polemic with Lev Gumillev’s points of view, appeared of such a sort. Petropavlovsk researcher, having analyzed the statement of Gumilev, about the fatal influence of Judaism on the destiny of Khazar state, the part of which was located on territory of present Kazakhstan, soundly criticized Gumilev’s conception.
As before, subjects of the works were rather different. The main part of reports touched the Soviet epoch, again, almost unexplored sides of Jewish life in that time, destinies of concrete people, which have felt thirtieth years, war, evacuation. Tatiana Zhilkina’s report about Jewish school in Shymkent – the lone school in Kazakhstan, existed here in 1919-1929 th, very interesting research of main specialist of Kazakhstani President’s Archive, A. Zulkasheva about Jews, leaders of Central Departments of the republic in 20 th - 30 th of the last century were of such sort. In the same line is a report of A. Kukushkina about prisoners of Karlag, Jews convicted by political motives, and some other materials. Almost a one third of materials are devoted to the period of Great Patriotic War. G. Kasymova’s report “Evacuation of Jews to Semipalatinsk region”. is saturated with plenty of numbers and facts. Actually interpretation of evacuation had a concrete character and it may be used, further, successfully, by future researchers of this theme.
During the work of conference the concerned informal exchange of opinions among the participants, took place. There was almost a simple conclusion, which was made by the majority: it is necessary to start the deep search the history of Jews on such wide territory.
