Every year Almaty Jewish Community celebrate Sukkoth out
of town, in the open air. This year "Mitsva" Association, Hesed
Polina and Jewish Community Center invited the members of the community
to the school "Daulet" that had a big park available for the
holiday. Family and Youth club arrived there first built a traditional
hut and decorated it with children drawings, balloons and small flags.
The members of the clubs studied tradition under the direction
of Rufina Boguslavskaya - the head of the Community Center and before
the holyday they studied the historical roots of Sukkoth, traditional
plants that accompany it and rituals.
In the evening there was a quiz, so the knowledge appeared
to be very useful. After the quiz people sang songs, danced and had a
really good time.
On Sunday morning they met the guests: families from "Mazal
Tov" Program, Women's Club and volunteers. Everybody who visited
sukka for the first time said prayer for Lulav, and united all the attributes
then shook them as a sigh of unity of Jews all over the world.
There were not only stories about Sukkoth but songs, puppet
show of Children Club "My father's Tahlit" and poems read by
Israeli poetess Svetlana Shteingrud. She congratulated everybody with
Sukkoth.
The holiday was finished with a big lunch for 300 people.
