14 Shvat 5762 (27 January 2002) Family Club opened in Karaganda
Community Center with the celebration of Tu-Bi-Shvat. 23 Jewish families
(70 people) the representatives of 3 generations: grandparents, parents
and children gathered in cafe "Bibigul". The presenter of the
meeting celebrated everybody with Tu-Bi-Shvat and told about the history
and tradition of this holiday - the New Year of Trees.
The children played, danced and read poems, which they studied
with the help of Larissa Brodskaya, Hesed Miriam librarian. Byaka Shkodnitser
visited the holiday in person; she was hoping to spoil the holiday but
failed and finally she became the best friend for children, sang songs
and danced with them.
Boris Propishchan provided musical illustration of the holiday.
The holiday finished with symbolic planting little palm trees to flowerpots.
Even there was winter in Karaganda but as they say when we pray for rain,
it is raining in Israel. The same story is with the trees.
