Regular Torah lessons have began in Shymkent this summer.
Members of Shymkent community started studying the main Jewish book with
gusto. For many people the lessons became vitally important. They find
answers for religious questions that troubled them, and bind their lives
with their fathers and grandfathers' belief.
Not so long ago the students were read the Week chapter of
the Torah, but they did not limited themselves with simple introduction
to the text. The community members eagerly discussed the meaning of the
chapter. The religious life of Jews in Shymkent is rather varied. Besides
Torah lessons and the Shabbat they have a service held in synagogue every
Saturday. Lev Uvaydov, the coordinator of Hesed religious program, holds
a prayer with more than 20 men.
