The opening of the first kosher restaurant "Sarah"
took place in Almaty during Pesach. This is the first kosher restaurant
in Kazakhstan and Middle Asia. That is why there were a lot of guests.
There were: Natan Volosh, the substitute of Tel-Aviv Mayor and the Head
of the delegation came from the capital of Israel to Almaty, Israel Mei-Ami,
the Ambassador of Israel in Kazakhstan, Richard Jones, the Ambassador
of the United States of America, Kairat Bukenov, the first deputy Akim
of Almaty and Adyl Ibrayev deputy Akim on ideology.
The idea of opening a kosher restaurant belonged to Alexander
Baron, the President of "Mitsva" Association. This idea was
supported and realized with the help of the Association, Jewish Congress
of Kazakhstan, synagogue and Igor Berner, the director of the Hotel "Karagalinskiy".
The renovation had been going on for three months, the kitchen
was renovated, dishes were bought and a special menu was prepared. Everything
met the kashrut requirements. The chief rabbi of Kazakhstan will watch
kosher in the restaurant.
According to the national tradition the mezuza was nailed, the ribbon
was cut and the first guests went to the hall. There were representatives
of Almaty community, Hesed staff and journalists. Klezmer orchestra played
national music; and the atmosphere war warm and friendly. Everybody enjoyed
stuffed fish and other national Jewish dishes.
Many words were said about the friendship about sister-cities
Almaty and Tel-Aviv. The opening of the kosher restaurant is a new step
to strengthening the friendship and mutual cooperation between two nations.
Now everybody who wants to eat kosher food can visit kosher
restaurant in the Hotel "Karagalinskiy".
