VISITING THE JEWISH BOOK 4 August 2002

Festival of the Book is always a secure contribution to the future, Children's Festival of the Book is also a lively, mischievous, incontestable prove of value of such events. On August 4, in Almaty synagogue the performance "Visiting the Jewish Book" was held. It is not the first year that young experts of their native literature take part in the Community Festival of the Jewish Book. This time they performed fragments of Medrashs from "Breishit" book, materials to Shavuout, recited poems of Jewish poets. The songs they sang in Hebrew became a fitting continuation of the holiday.

The performance was prepared for two months. 30 children from 3 to 14 years old together with the teachers of the Community center thoroughly selected favorite stories, parables, poems. Everybody could test his or her skills of an actor or an elocutionist. Youth club also was not indifferent to the preparations. It was in charge of organization. Ornamenting of the hall, refreshments, accommodation of guests became their contribution to the Community Festival of the Jewish Book. Members of the Youth club watched the performance of the younger children with admiration, they were glad to give them presents.

The children who acted in the synagogue could give the others not only the part of their knowledge, they helped the guests to get to the world where literature heroes become the best friends of a man. And I will not wonder if today most of the books presented by the children will be taken by adults. The young generation managed to inspire the adults with a desire to read once again about "Noah And His Ark" and to learn "Why the Dove Became the Symbol Peace"!
