  The round table became a kind of science conference on history of Kazakhstan. The presentation of the new book "The History of Jews in Kazakhstan" (the end of 19th the beginning of 20th century) took place. This book is a collected historical material covered some aspects of the history of Jews living on the territory of modern Kazakhstan.

  This book is the first edition from the series of books on the History of Kazakhstani Jews. A group of authors has been working on it: Isaac Greenberg (the compiler), Tamara Volkova, Vladimir Proskurin and Tatyana Zhilkina. The book is based on very interesting archive documents testifying the considerable social role played by Jewish people and dedicated to Ashkenazi Jews lived on the territory of Kazakhstan that period of time. The documents from The Central State Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan never published before were introduced to the public.

  Alexander Baron, the President of "Mitsva" opened the presentation with the speech of welcome: "In spite of particular theme of the book, - he said, - the publication of this book is very important; I can compare it with polishing one of the facets of a "diamond" of all multinational history of the people of Kazakhstan".

  The discussion of the book was very interesting because of interesting people participated in it: Zdislav Novitski, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland, Kenes Nurpeissov, the Corresponding member of the Academy of Science, Avrum Ulman, the representative of Israeli Embassy in the Republic of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan and Lev Ioffe, the Chairman of Association of Jewish Communities.

  The authors of the book presented their own books. Tamara Volkova said that in spite Jews had been living in Kazakhstan for a very long time, the history of their Diaspora had not been written before. Vladimir Proskurin told about the active part Jews took in all spheres of life of Semirechye at old times. They created the history together with the other people. Tatyana Zhilkina told about the most interesting archive documents presented in the book.

  Avram Ulman called the book the most precious present to Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan; and the Ambassador of Poland said he hoped the special library of the people of Kazakhstan would be established in the nearest future; stressed on close ties between destinies of Jews and Polish living in this country. The most interesting thing is the book is telling about lives of real people, creating the history.

  Issac Greenberg, the compiler of the book told about the plans of the authors for the future. The next book will tell the audience about: the contribution made by Jews during the Second World War, their contribution in the development of medicine, education, industry of Kazakhstan, about lives of Polish Jews, about struggle against cosmopolitism in post-war period etc.

  In summary of the presentation Alexander Baron thanked everybody for coming and said that the work on next book was going on and the new edition would be published very soon.
