On 20 August 2001 was the opening of the 5th Festival of
Jewish Book in the Central Library of the Academy of Science.
There were about 300 people. The festival was opened by Alexander
Baron, the President of "Mitsva" Association who told about
the goals of the festival: familiarization with the books written by Jewish
writers, books edited in Israel, getting more information about Judaism,
Jewish culture, history and traditions. Jewish agency "Sokhnut"
and Consular Section of Israeli Embassy prepared their own stands.
Consul Dan Meiri, The First Secretary of Israeli Embassy
in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Kulshakhan Abugaliyeva, the Director of
the Central Library of the Academy of Science, Khaim Gdulin, the Representative
of the agency "Sokhnut" and Isaak Popov the Honoured Worker
of Art of Kazakhstan made speeches at the opening of the Festival.
They celebrated all the audience with the opening and wished
them a fruitful work.
So, the ribbon was cut and everybody went to the decorated
hall where was the exhibition of Jewish books. The most exhibited books
were from the Republican Jewish Library. The Library has received a lot
of books from Israel a few days before the Festival opening. There different
sections at the exhibition: new books, literature on Judaism, Jewish Home,
Traditions, Holidays, Jewish Cuisine, Books on Hebrew and periodicals.
The hall was decorated with National handmade pictures and
religious attributes. The exhibition was opened for 5 days. All this time
there were a lot of people. Readers studied the books, read them and made
notes.
