Students and teachers of the City Jewish School |
Karaganda Jewish Community celebrated hanukkah - the Holiday of
Light and Freedom on 30 of Kislev 5762 (15 December 2001). All Jewish organizations
of the city joined their forces to prepare the holiday; the employees and volunteers
of Hesed "Miriam"(Bella Kamenetskaya) and teachers and student of
Jewish Sunday school (director Alla Gendelman) worked really hard.
About 300 participants of the Holiday came to the Red Hall in the
Theatre of Musical Comedy rented for the celebration. Two-meter Hanukkiya (a
kind of candelabrum for Hanukkah) made especially for the Holiday by Hesed volunteer
Isaac Sandler was placed on the stage. Compere of the evening Irina Kozhanovskaya
read a poem about the historical events connected with the Holiday. So the first
candle of Hanukkiya dedicated to the victory of Makkaveys was lit; and the seventh
one was dedicated to the Renewal of Jewish traditions in Karaganda Community
(it was the seventh, next to last day of the Holiday).
The program of the concert included the performance of both professional
and amateur actors. Among professional artists the most successful were the
dancers of the Theatre of Musical Comedy who danced "Hava Nagila".
The audience was very impressed with the tragic monologue of Hanna, who lost
her 7 sons in the days of Makkaveys' riot, performed by N. Sokhrannaya (actress
of oblast Drama Theatre). Tatyana Irineva played potpourri of Jewish melodies.
The Choir of boys sang "Am Israel Ai" and "Al Hanisim".
Vilen Molotv-Luchanskiy was a brilliant compere of the second amateur's part
of the concert. The teacher of Sunday school danced and their students sang
famous Jewish songs. Olga Torf, coordinator of "Sokhnut" Agency and
Mikhail Falikovich, the Chairman of Jewish Community congratulated every body
with Hanukkah.
After the concert there was refreshment consisted of national dishes:
forshmak, chicken and donuts. People proposed toasts to Jewish nation, to Freedom
and to the sovereign Kazakhstan.
The light of Hanukkah has been burning in the hearts of Jews.
